The Room You Already Paid For

Almost every home in Utah County has a full basement, and a large share of them have been sitting bare for a decade holding a treadmill and some boxes. Finishing it is the cheapest square footage you will ever add, because the foundation, the roof, and most of the framing already exist. We take basements from open studs to finished, textured rooms that read like the rest of the house rather than like an afterthought under it.

Soffits, Ducts, and the Things in the Way

Basements are never a clean box. There is ductwork to box in, a beam running through the middle, plumbing lines, and a furnace that needs air. We frame and board soffits and bulkheads square so they look intentional instead of improvised, and we put access panels where the shutoffs and cleanouts actually are, so nobody is cutting a hole in a finished wall in three years.

Board That Suits a Basement

Below grade is a different environment from the main floor. We use moisture-resistant board in bathrooms, near mechanical rooms, and along walls where the foundation runs cold, and we keep the bottom edge off the slab so a minor water event does not wick straight up the wall. Where headroom is tight, we plan the ceiling around it rather than losing three more inches to a drop grid.

What Our Basement Finishing Service Includes

Taping is the step that decides whether a drywall job looks professional or shows every seam under paint. At High Mountain Drywall, taping is its own discipline, not an afterthought squeezed in after hanging. Our crews embed tape into every joint, corner, and fastener head, then build up coat after coat of compound until the wall reads as one smooth, continuous surface. Whether it’s a single room or an entire new-construction build, the same careful process applies to every seam across Utah County and Summit County.

Finished So It Doesn't Feel Like a Basement

The tell on a cheap basement finish is always the same: texture that does not match upstairs, wavy soffits, and corners that were close enough. We match the texture to the rest of your house and run the corners straight, because the point of finishing a basement is that it stops feeling like one.

Serving Homeowners and Builders Across Utah

We finish basements for homeowners in Provo, Orem, American Fork, and Pleasant Grove where the houses are older and the basements have been waiting a while, and for builders in Lehi and Saratoga Springs finishing basements as part of the original build. We work around the fact that you are living upstairs, keep the stairwell sealed, and clean up at the end of each day rather than the end of the job.

FAQ

Basement Finishing Questions

Q Do you frame the basement or only hang the drywall?
Both, depending on where you are. We can frame the walls and then board them, or come in behind your framer or general contractor and take it from bare studs to finished texture.
Most basements run two to three weeks from board to final texture. Drying time between coats sets the pace more than the hanging does, and a basement dries slower than a main floor in winter.
Moisture-resistant board goes in bathrooms, near the mechanical room, and along foundation walls. Standard board is fine everywhere else in a dry, conditioned basement.
Yes, and we recommend it. A basement finished in a different texture from the rest of the house always reads as an add-on, no matter how good the work is.
We install access panels at every point you will realistically need to reach, and we walk them with you before boarding. Covering a cleanout is the kind of mistake that costs somebody a wall later.
Yes. Soffits and bulkheads are a large part of basement work, and getting them square and consistent is most of what separates a good basement finish from an obvious one.
Less than you fear if the stairwell is sealed properly. We contain the work area, use dust control while sanding, and clean daily.
Square footage, ceiling height, how many soffits and corners the layout requires, and the texture. A free on-site walkthrough gets you an exact number.
